The son got pushed (at least according to his teachers and principal) at the daycare by some other kid and he fell on his chin and broke it. It was horrible. A big gash and blood all over his shirt. It was painful to watch. We took him to Manipal and when they said sutures we were not at all sure and decided to take him to his regular paed. He checked it, said sutures would leave a 1mm scar, else, alternate was to tape him up, but scar would be little bit bigger. Since the injury was under the chin (may not be very visible when he grows up) and since we didn't want to put him through anesthesia and needles etc, we asked him to tape him up.
Somewhere I felt angry. And sad. And upset, in equal portions. The doc we went to in Manipal, didn't help by telling us it was a crime to put kids less than 3.5 years in a daycare. We told him both of us work and we don't have a choice, he came back saying what are you earning for, this is a big price to pay etc. I told him, this could have happened anywhere, and he still persisted on his agenda. I just left it. I hate people who do that.
Then I was (and am) feeling angry about the daycare. I don't think they are maintaining the student:teacher ratio that they promised, and I intend to talk to them about it. This is the third time the son is falling and it gets worse every time.
But then I remember the tenants upstairs. They are a young couple and the girl had gone to her hometown to attend some wedding and in a very freak accident, she got hit by a bull and had to stay in bed for >20 days. She is still unable to get up and do her work on her own and is attended by her mom and other relatives. Whom can she blame? I am not sure.
So trying to find out which boy pushed the son and caused so much pain to him is like trying to find out which bull hit her. You basically cannot do a thing about either. So I get philosophical and lap up my own anger and pain. This is life I guess! Phew!!

arrrghhh poor baby. that is REALLY Terrible.I hope he feels better soon
So sorry to hear about your son. Sorrier to hear about the doctor's advice. It was rather unprofessional!
A friend's daughter came home from daycare with a bite mark on her cheek. The parents were distraught, but the little girl went back to school the next day as happy as a clam and played with the very same kid who bit her! How easily they forget. :)
A pinch of sugar or haldi applying there will solve the problem. If persists, u will get Silicea Powder (Homeopathy) which should be applied 4 to 5 times. No sutures or no scars.
I also suggest a doctor in the daycare or any training to the teachers' for the first aid to the kids.
Manipal doctors has no business to discuss with the personal life of parents who go there for teatment. U should have said, since both of us are working we cld bring the child to yr hospital for treatment.
just to know to help us plan, which doctor do you refer to in Manipal, i thought you used to go to cradle? Also which day care is your son going to, is it your office one. Hope questions are not intrusive.
@ All - thanks very much. He is fine now. Yeah, the doc was rather nasty, I didn't like him very much
@ Anonymous - Nope, Manipal is next to our house so we took him there that is all. When they said sutures are needed, we took him to Jayanagar to show him to his regular paed in Cradle (now Cloud9). We go to Dr. Kishore Kumar (the doc who founded Cradle)
Hi
Hope your son is better now...
Just wanted to say-its so difficult for us after a baby..i was terrified to leave my daughter in a daycare and have taken a break but i still feel miserable somedays that i cant go back to work..as u said, things can go wrong anywhere..
A few months back when we went to visit MIL, my SIL's 3 year old son pushed my daughter and fell on her and she fell vackwards landing on her head with the full weight of the boy on her..imagine this happened in a house full of elders and no one could prevent it...the worse part was no one said a word to that boy and no one even lifted my daughter until i came running from the kitchen hearing her cry...when this is the reaction from family members, i cant even imagine how outsiders will behave..
Didn't the daycare offer to take the boy to the doctor? What if the parents didn't work near by?what would they do in such a case?I am surprised that they left it to working parents to sort out the issue.
Glad R is recovering. And that Dr clearly missed the compassion class in med school. This could have happened at a playground. Is this the company daycare?

@Sri - Thanks yes, he is.
@Anonymous - They have a nurse in the facility but that's about it.
@DS - Yeah, it is. They were very apologetic. But to be honest, I guess it could have happened anywhere.
I hope your son is doing well now.Poor kid must have been very painful for him and to mom and da to see him suffer.
I have had my own issues with Doctors , who think they are Gods, dispensing free advice, insults etc to people. But cant beleive he said that!!!! Is there any formal complaint you can lodge against him.
They sure can use some senitivity training.
Hope your son is doing better..This is a really negligent attitude of day care, they should have taken your son to a hospital immediately..
