Today is Ugadi, the Telugu (and Kannada and Marathi) new year. We make Ugadi pachchadi (Ugadi chutney) to signify the six tastes of life: sweet, bitter, sour, vagaru, spice and salt. Today is Rohan's first Ugadi. Already the Indian year in which he was born is past :) Time is flying with large wings!
Here is what my pachchadi looked like this year. They say, whatever taste dominates, your life in the coming year will be that way. And spice definitely dominated my pachchadi today. It was spice in the taste and after-taste ;) So I am looking forward to a spicy life this coming year!
I kept the menu simple this year. Just Raw mango pulihara and dadhojanam :)

Today was the first time i had pachchadi at Peacock restaurant in Sunnyvale. I loved it, it was yummy..Hard to tell which flavor dominated the chutney, yours looks yummy too :-)
Looks yum. I had to add menthulu to my pachadi to make it bitter :-D
Happy Ugadi.
Happy Ugadi to u and ur family...how do u manage home, work, baby and all this special cooking?
@Anonymous - Thank you, you flatter me but I don't really do all that much. I know some of my friends do a lot lot more :)
You are welcome..no it's not flattering, was just wondering :)
Anyways wanted to get ur opinion on this - u leave ur child in the daycare when u r at work? And how r day cares in Blore? We r planning to move to Blore very soon, so thought will ask u this...
@Anonymous - For now I am managing by working from home. Waiting for the daycare at my work to start. Will start work commute regularly from next week, till the daycare starts, planning to work out the schedule somehow with my husband. Daycares in Bangalore, no idea, simply because we haven't checked anything out yet.
@Shubhika - Thank you. Good that you got initiated into a South Indian tradition ;)
@Shilpa - Aww, but what an innovative mind you have ;)
